DVRs of TREND 250 series can be managed not only locally but also remotely via the Internet. To establish network connection and get access to the video and functions of the DVR, it is necessary to properly configure server and client devices.
The server is the DVR itself, connected to the Internet and having local network IP address. The Internet service provider (ISP) can assign a dynamic or fixed external IP address. Although TREND DVRs can be directly connected to the Internet (they support all major network protocols), it is recommended to use a router, even when the DVR is the only device on the LAN.
If the ISP provides a fixed external IP address, we set local IP address in the DVR menu, which is to be forwarded by the router. The router should redirect this address with HTTP port, command port, streaming port, and port for supporting PDAs. The default HTTP port is 80, the rest of them (respectively): 5050, 6050, 7050. The DVR is also able to use DHCP server. Example settings are shown in the screenshots below. Note: network settings should be suitable for the local network. In the case of problems with specifying the IP address, default gateway and subnet mask, we should contact our ISP.

If the service provided by the ISP does not ensure a fixed external IP address, we have to use a DDNS service. More on configuration of dynamic domain mains - in the article: What is DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name System) and how to use it?.
After configuring the server, we can do the same with the client - the PC which we will use to remotely manage the DVR. Remote monitoring and playback is possible with the Internet Explorer browser, with the use of the dedicated CMS application, or via a suitable cellular phone (with an appropriate operating system).
Internet Explorer
The use of the Internet Explorer is the easiest way to control the DVR, without a need to install any software from a CD or other media. Any required components are downloaded over the network.
Before using the browser, we should allow all ActiveX controls . To do this, we enter network settings and select the appropriate options.

When accessing the DVR page for the first time we have to wait a little longer. After loading the components, the browser will notify us of the need to install and run unsigned additions. We should confirm this. The page will be loaded again and we will be shown a login screen. We should enter our username and password, and provide the pre-defined Command Port - by default 5050.

After logging in we see a list of channels. To select a channel to monitor, we double click the name of the channel.

From the browser window we may also configure the DVR, after entering "Parameters" menu.

Network client application
The application can integrate several TREND DVRs connected to the Internet, even though they are deployed in different locations. The free software package included with each TREND DVR consists of CUConfig, CUMonitor, and CUPlayer utilities, which are used, respectively, for configuration of the DVRs, multi-channel monitoring (simultaneously from several DVRs), and remote playback of recordings.
The program uses MySQL database - the server is set as localhost. During installation, it is recommended not to change the default settings.
The application installs two utilities running in the background, which are necessary for operrating the CU Software. The active state of the CMS and NRU services is indicated by animated icons in the system tray.

After installing the software, at the first start we have to define the DVR or the group of DVRs. To do this, we run CUConfig utility. At the request to login we enter the default Username (root) and password (by default - none). If we are advanced users, we may provide address of the database server (the default address is - local) and port 8000 (number of the port when installing MySQL). The registration procedure applies to the database server, not logging into the DVR!
Logging into the local database
As logged user we can add a new DVR by using Device/Device management/Add path. We have to fill in all the fields in the "Add device" window. We must must know the IP address of the DVR, command port number, and the MAC address of its network card. The address of the network card can be found by logging into the DVR through Internet Explorer and choosing "Parameters" option (it is also listed on the sticker on the motherboard inside the unit). The "Device name" can be set arbitrary, while the "User name" and "Password" have to be identical with those defined for the DVR as user account. To add another unit, we repeat the above procedure.

The CUMonitor utility ensures live network monitoring of up to 64 channels from any DVRs. After starting the utility we need to log into the database - the username and password are the same as in the case of logging on to the CUConfig (default 'root', no password). The tree that appears in the sidebar shows the defined DVRs and their channels. To open a channel in a selected box, we double click on the associated camera icon.

In order to playback the archives recorded on the hard drive of a DVR we can use CUPlayer utility. The logging procedure is the same as in the previous two cases. In the dialog window we select the channels which are to be searched and specify the date and time. The recordings will be played from DVR/s, which requires to choose "Front-end equipment." Clicking on "Start Search" we will put the bars on time-lines of the corresponding recordings. Clicking two times on any of them we mark the moment of starting the playback. We can play back up to 4 channels simultaneously.

Monitoring via cellular phones
Mobile phones are currently the most popular terminals, which can be used practically everywhere providing access to any monitoring system in the world.
TREND DVRs are equipped with software supporting cellular phones running Symbian system (beginning with S60 3rd Edition), iPhones, and those based on Windows Mobile. The program dedicated for iPhones ("Aplayer") can be downloaded from AppStore. The remaining installation files we can download from DIPOL server. They are also supplied with the DVR on the CD-ROM.
The files must be transferred to a PC, and then, using the attached application, uploaded to the phone. The detailed instructions on installing new applications should be available in the manual of the phone.
Note: when installing the program on phones with Symbian operating system we have to disable validation of certificates! Otherwise, an error occurs and the installation will not be completed.
After installation, the application icon should appear on the list of available programs.
In the case of Windows Mobile and Symbian systems the application is called QQeye. It requires us to configure the connection by providing IP address, user name, password and port number. The user name and password are the same as in the cases of local access, online access via the IE browser, or through CUSoftware. The default port for data stream intended for mobile phones is 7050, previously configured locally in the DVR.

The application allows us to quickly select the video channel, perform PTZ functions (if available in the CCTV system), and use other options such as zooming and creating screenshots.
To use the features we should have access via 3G networks. The EDGE and GPRS services do not provide sufficient data throughput.
